PGDCSW - Objectives


PGDCSW – (Post Graduate Diploma in Clinical Social Work and Counseling Practice)


Upon completion of the programme the students will be able to:

  1. Display knowledge of foundations of general, developmental and personality psychology
  2. Demonstrate awareness of mental health and psychopathology applicable for counselling
  3. Display knowledge of direct social work practice and clinical practice and appreciate the role of counselling in clinical social work practice
  4. Demonstrate knowledge of process, skills and techniques of counselling practice 
  5. 5. Demonstrate skills in building relationship and assessment of clients
  6. Demonstrate skills in the practice of techniques of counselling
  7. Exhibit knowledge and skills of practice using theoretical approaches of counselling
  8. Demonstrate skills of practice using behavioural, cognitive behavioural, Cognitive analytical approaches in counselling
  9. Demonstrate knowledge and skills of strengths based practice
  10. Display detailed understanding of practice in the areas of child and adolescent counselling or Marriage and Family or Workplace counselling

PO1: Problem Solving

Identify and analyze psychosocial problems using theories of human behaviour and principles of counselling.

Take informed actions after identifying the assumptions that frame our thinking and actions, checking out the degree to which these assumptions are accurate and valid, and looking at our ideas and decisions (intellectual, organizational, and personal) from different perspectives

PO3: Communication

Understand and analyse verbal and non-verbal patterns of communication in therapeutic relationship

Recognize different value systems including your own, understand the moral dimensions of your decisions, and accept responsibility for them
